With spectacular old-growth forests and endless lakes, Sayner offers endless recreational opportunities year round. Enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, and more on the pristine lakes. Explore the natural landscape on the extensive system of hiking and biking trails. As the birthplace to the world’s first snowmobile, recreational fun continues into the winter. Residents enjoy snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and ice fishing in the winter wonderland. Along with endless recreational opportunities, Sayner is also home to unique local shops and other great amenities.


Parks and Recreation

The stunning natural setting of Sayner provides the perfect setting for recreational activities. Big Muskellunge Lake, Crystal, Plum, and Star Lake are a few of the major lakes within the community. The Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System offers 45 miles of paved trails for biking and hiking and connect Sayner to other cities in the region. Other trail systems include Razorback Ridges Trails, Star Lake Nature Trail, and Trampers Trails.


Golf lovers will enjoy a day on the greens at Plum Lake Golf Club. This historic 9 hole course is one of the oldest in the state of Wisconsin.


Plum Lake Hemlock Forest and Aurora Lake State Natural Area offer opportunities to explore the great outdoors. Camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, and more can be enjoyed by Sayner residents.


 


Shopping and Dining

Despite its small size, Sayner is filled with unique shopping and dining establishments for residents to enjoy.  Located on Main Street and throughout the community, there are retail spots offering everything that residents might need. Carl Eliason & Co. Inc. Lumber & Hardware, The Corner Store, and Up North Traders sell home and recreational goods. GreenWeavers is a favorite local women’s clothing boutique. One can find unique gifts and home decor at Plum Lake Quilts or Traditions. Delicious food can be found at Danny's Roadhouse Saloon, Mar-Li's Bar, Sayner Pub, and Vinchi's Hillside.


Education

Students in Sayner are educated through the Northland Pines School District. This district serves 1,400 students in communities throughout Vilas County, including Cloverland, Conover, Eagle River, Land O’ Lakes, Lincoln, Plum Lake, St. Germain, and Washington. It has 8 schools within 4 buildings for students in 4K through 12th grade.
